A Pittsburgh native, Erin Burkett has led her own
band, The Mean Reds, since 1994 throughout her hometown and the
northeastern United States. Strongly rooted in gospel music and the
church, she has been performing since childhood … her writing and
music have grown up with her.
Burkett began her musical journey in a straighter
blues style, which has metamorphosed into her current hybrid of soul,
gospel and rock/roots. Burkett’s first CD (self-titled) was comprised
of nine original songs in a traditional blues style. Burkett’s new
release, Long Walk Home, is a departure. The CD Contains nine carefully
crafted originals that explore some livelier ground and revisit her
childhood roots.
The Mean Reds have been busy growing loyal audiences
in the tri-state area, playing concerts at numerous bars, clubs,
festivals and television appearances. Burkett’s band has shared the
stage with such legends as Savoy Brown, Koko Taylor and John Mayall.
